Last night I was reading through Philippians 1 as part of my devotions. I began my approach to this chapter with a simple question: what in this passage causes me to want to worship God more? One of the things that I fixed on was the assertion—one that I’m sure has been a comfort to many of you—that “...he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

In thinking of my own life, I know that there are many things that I start and don’t complete. Projects that get started and then are sidetracked by new developments or emergencies. Books—oh so many books!—that I begin but then get distracted by some other title on my shelf. What a contrast with God! His responsibilities are more and of greater importance than anything on my plate; and yet, there is no loose end that he fails to tie up.

Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is convinced that God is someone who completes every work he begins. He knows the future so he is never sidetracked by new developments. He is infinite in wisdom so he’s never stumped by how to proceed. He is almighty so his will never grows tired or weak. He is infinitely good so that there is never a more morally excellent idea that can occur to him than the work he has already begun. What a God! How worthy he is of our praise and adoration! Join me in praising this God today!

See you Sunday when we come to worship Him together,
Pastor Wayne
